Citrus Bioflavonoids?

I've read that taking a Vitamin C supplement is good for Histamine Intolerance, just wondering if anyone knows if it's ok to take one which contains Citrus Bioflavonoids as citrus is a trigger food for me?  Many thanks, Cat-Bo.

Hi there Cat-Bo,

Vitamin C is very helpful indeed.

The only vitamin C supplement I have taken is Viridian Nutrition Acerola complex (made from cherries and absolutely nothing else). As a rule I (and my practitioner) are wary of supplements not made from whole foods. Did you know that vitamin C tablets are often made from fermented corn? Don't even get me started on where vitamin D comes from :) Ok, I have to spill...sheep hair

I don't know if that's the case with the supplement you are taking, given that it contains bioflavinoids...but have you considered getting your daily dose in it's natural state, with it's supporting minerals and anti-oxidants, rather than taking tablets that are full of fillers that often cause problems themselves?

For example:
1/2 cup chopped sweet red pepper = 160% rda
1 cup cantaloupe = 110% rda
1 cup mango = 75% rda
1 peach = 21% rda

To answer your original question, it depends on the source of your bioflavinoids:

Citrus fruits, onions, tea, grapes, chocolate (doubtful!) or a number of others. That's what generally worries me with supplements  - it's really hard to find out where things come from.

Hope this helps!
